I know I'm quite late on this topic but I'm finally out with it. I saw yesterday (Dec. 12 2007) that Vista SP1 Release Candidate was out to the public and I decided to try it out. I figured that it's more stable than the beta. It is!!! Any who, I have friends asking me about Vista SP1 Pre-Final. I'm not tired of telling them where to look for it, I'm just getting to many requests for it. And when I say too many, it's like 20 so far ^_^. Ok any who, I tracked down a site that I used to get more info on and download Vista SP1 Release Candidate via Windows Vista Team Blog under a blog titled: "Windows Vista SP1 RC now available for public download"

The following two screen shots are right after the installation of Vista SP1

The small water mark above is found above where above the clock. It's not an annoyance unless you constantly look around the clock area with no windows covering it. It will go way when the final version of SP1 comes out.

Features:
So far I've taken advantage of choosing what drive you want to defragment.

End notes:

  • This is the most stable version of Vista SP1. If you want to try it, you will have to go through a Windows Update and Windows installing those updates. No worries if you can't find them via the Windows Update. They'll be installed when you install the Service Pack.

  • Installation tips: When I got my small package from Technet I extracted it to my desktop because it's a zipped file. You have to run the script and then proceed with the Windows Update manually. You should then get a list of updates. Those are the ones I told you about that you'll need. After all those are installed, you'll get the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Release Candidate 1. Merry Christmas.

Making Vista faster, how? Watch.

Sadly, we all know that Windows Vista is a resource hog. From Home Basic to Ultimate, they all are hoggers. But if you still want to stay with Vista and still have a noticeable faster OS, I've found a little trick that you might not have the time for. Yes, you might not have time for it. But if you do have time for it or if you leave your computer on when no ones using it while you sleep, it's a good try. Disk Defragmenter. That might be your last hope before you pull your hairs out from the roots. Once you've started up your computer, click on the Start Orb, click on All Programs, then go up to Accessories, look for a folder named System Tools, and finally click on Disk Defragmenter.

From there just click Defragment Now and leave it over night. Yep, over night. In the morning, comment me about the speed difference. I dare you to, unless you do that and you don't see a difference. ^_^ Cheers.

Yahoo Messenger for Vista is up and running!!!

I'm an amateur tester of Yahoo Messenger for Vista (pre-beta). I actually went from XP's speed to Vista's heavy running OS just to test out this new messenger. Anywho, I'm not going to talk about those two, that's for later. There's a few things you should know before downloading this for casual use. There's a few small bugs still with this messenger which I hope that Yahoo will fix. By saying that I hope that are aware that this is still the "pre-beta" stage, you know, the one that's between Alpha and Beta. Okay, enough of tutoring. Now as for pros and cons go, I compiled a list of them. Remember this is from an amateur Yahoo Messenger tester/user (like you).

Pros:

  • It's here!!!!

  • The customizable color changing of windows (my fav).

  • Having the ability to use tabbed IMs.

  • The huge transfer size of 2GB.

  • Very user friendly look

  • Don't forget about the sidebar gadget :) It's very useful.

  • Stripped (just the messenger) install is quite small. Only 11MB.

  • And a fast install (about 2 minutes from download to using the messenger)

  • My favorite of all, the cool new sign in box. It's sleek and smooth.

Cons:

  • It's slow!!!

  • It's late!!!

  • Maybe it's late because of the slowness issue with it.

  • It's going to take time to get used to because of the new interface.

  • 64 bit users, it's not out for you guys. Sorry, they are working on it though.

  • This isn't what Yahoo advertised at first (but it's HERE!!!!)

I'm not sure if I missed any other pros and cons but for now thats a short list of what to expect from this pre-beta release.

There have been many angry Yahoo Messenger users about this late release and I was part of it. But for Yahoo to release a slow but Vista version now is better than 3 or even 6 months from now. One thing to remember though, Vista SP1 is coming soon so Yahoo might have to make an update for that which might cause some more minor, but annoying bugs in the software. I didn't have any problems from yesterday (12-6-07) when I installed it until today (12-7-07).

As I've seen other bloggers post about this, I noticed a small resemblances between all of us. We all agree that it needs work still and its better late than never. I'm sure you agree with that too. I uploaded a few of my own images of the new Yahoo Messenger for Vista to see a personalized view not of with Yahoo wants you to see.
