Haven't you just had some annoying little perv messaging you, even from different MySpace accounts? How about some stalker that knows everything about you and messages you day and night? Got pics that are downloaded from you and posted as their display? Well I have a simple, but effective, solution.
Before you get all happy thinking that there is ACTUALLY a program to track MySpace users, don't. There isn't one and probably won't unless MySpace makes it. What you'll find here is just some tips you can do to tweak your MySpace privacy settings.
Ok, well first thing, you have to have a MySpace account with a "hater." Once you got that, you are ready to do a lock down! Sign in to you MySpace as usual. Now depending if you got the new MySpace homepage or the classic, you'll have to do either click "Edit Profile" or Account Settings. If you got the classic homepage look, click "Account Settings" it should be the second link just to the right of your display pic. If you got the new hompage look, click on "My Account" and that link should be just to the left of the "Sign Out" button.
Did you get it? Perfect. You account settings have a great deal of privacy and other accountish things you can do to your profile. It is a very helpful thing to have and know about.
Ok well back to doing what I was trying to help you with. Here's my version. Click on the "Privacy" link. Next, uncheck any boxes you and just keep the birthday and photos boxes if you want. Also, since you're there already, make sure your profile is ONLY viewable by your friends only. Save all changes and we'll go to the next thing to do.
Ok off to the Spam settings we go. Click the "Spam" link next to the Privacy link. This is my favorite part. Just about anything that is annoying from MySpace can be blocked from here. Ok now for the blocking. Ignore the "Overall Settings" we want a custom setting. To do this, just start off with unchecking all the boxes in "Messages" "Comments" and "IM Invitations." As for the "Friend Requests" just leave the first two check marked and uncheck "Allow bands to send friend requests" "Allow filmmakers to send friend requests" and "Allow comedians to send friend requests" (remember, a stalker can still make different accounts and still get to you). Now as for the Group and Event Invitations, click "No one can send me invitations." That's it, now just save all changes and that solves the rest of your privacy issues.
Ok well you're done now. Only friends can message you, you can still get friend requests only from people that know you or those that you gave your email or last name to, and well now your MySpace is locked.
Now about pics, this is really up to you. But I have just all the pics that show my by myself viewable by only me. To do that just make sure you've saved the work from above and click "Home" and hover over "Profile" (3rd button next to the Home and Mail buttons) and click "My Photos." Once there, click on "Edit Photos" that should be under the "Sign Out" button, 3rd link down. You'll now enter what I call the Album Edit section. This is where you change the privacy settings for your photo album(s). Underneath the album name and under the photo number you'll see something like "Everyone" click that and change the viewable setting to who you want to view your photos in that particular album. That'd be it. Just don't forget to save the settings.
After all the settings changed, you'll notice a ton of less spam and messages from those annoying little pricks. Good luck and don't forget to comment on this SUPER long tutorial :) Till next time.
