Well here I am, now talking about the new Safari powered by Apple. Safari 4 Public Beta came out as a bit of surprise to most of us, released on February 24, 2008. For a while now, before and after Apple had Safari out for Windows, they have been claiming that Safari is the best browser ever. Well that might be true in the great minds of Apple.
Safari 3 was an ok browser. It wasn't fast nor the best.
Well that was until Safari 4 comes into play. Safari 4 is new fastest and best browser on the web. Which at the same time, Microsoft, Opera, Mozilla, and Google all claim that their browsers are the best on the web.
The installer for Safari alone is 24 Mb (that's without a bundled download like Safari + Quicktime).
If you are like the only 90 something percent of people who has a PC, here are the requirements:
- Any PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista
- 500-MHz Pentium-class processor or better
- 256MB of RAM
- Top Sites and Cover Flow require a compatible DirectX 9.0 video card with 64MB of video RAM.
Now for the obvious requirements. If you have a Mac, you are already able to get it. :)
In a quote from Softpedia.com
According to the company's official download page, Safari 4 Beta is designed to integrate seamlessly with “any PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista. [with at least] 500-MHz Pentium-class processor or better and 256MB of RAM.”
Now my take on Safari, personally I like it better than the Safari 3 version. Heck, I actually wrote this blog on Safari 4 Beta. Only thing I noticed once I started it up, was the interface. It looks alot like Google's Chrome browser.
Pros:
- Sleeker interface.
- Awesome first time start up!
- Integrates with Vista perfectly (I haven't tested it on XP yet.)
- Simple and smooth feel.
- It is fast in HTML pages.
Cons:
- Looks too much like Chrome.
- Currently using 177,016K of my RAM out of 1 gigabyte with 2 tabs. (Kinda heavy)
- I don't know how XP will cope
- Graphics might need a MACish boost.
- Takes time to load Java & Flash pages.
